2010 Pre-K Parents as Partners Institute

The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is proud to announce that the National Pre-Kindergarten Parents as Partners Training of Facilitators Institute will be held on March 1–3, 2010 in Washington, DC. Participants from NCLR Affiliate organizations that offer early childhood education (ECE) programs (preschool, child care, Head Start, and kindergarten through grade 2) to Latino children and parents are encouraged to nominate bilingual ECE educators and parent trainers to attend this important event.

The goal of the Institute is to train bilingual facilitators on the Pre-K PAP curriculum, building their capacity to return to their organization and conduct the program for parents as well as train other local facilitators.

NCLR will sponsor 50 participants from Affiliate Organizations and Programs on a first come-first serve basis. We encourage organizations to nominate two (2) participants to attend this important event. Sponsorship will include:

• Registration costs for the participant
• Pre-K PAP curriculum on CD
• Three nights lodging in a double occupancy room
• Breakfast and lunch for the three days
• Roundtrip airfare for the participant to Washington, DC

PreK PAP is an English and Spanish bilingual curriculum designed to help parents acknowledge and reclaim their rightful role as their children’s first and most important teachers. Through the training program, parents explore lessons, discuss relevant research, play traditional games that support children’s cognitive and social development, and learn to use everyday items and events as teaching opportunities for their children.

Join us as educators, program leaders, researchers, and other colleagues from throughout the country share up-to-date information on how to improve Latinos’ access to high-quality early childhood education and parent education services. The Pre-K PAP Institute will be held in conjunction with the 2010 NCLR National Latino Advocacy Days.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE for this event is January 16, 2010.

Each nominee is expected to complete a Registration Form (Only two participants per Affiliate organization).

EARLY REGISTRATION CONTEST Names of participants who complete the registration process by TUESDAY, JANUARY 12, 2010 will be placed in a drawing for a chance to win one of two complimentary tickets valued at $100 each to the 2010 NCLR Capital Awards on March 2!
